Web Activism Volunteer
This is a great opportunity to get first-hand experience of cutting-edge online campaigning techniques in an organisation with more than 650,000 members.
38 Degrees is a young and dynamic organisation that relies on volunteers that are hard-working, talented and enthusiastic. In turn, you’ll get hands on experience to learn innovative campaigning techniques and your ideas will be welcomed and contributions recognised.
The position is based in 38 Degrees' office in Farringdon. Working hours are flexible but you would ideally volunteer for three days a week for three months. 38 Degrees will pay travel and lunch expenses of up to a total of £15 a day. Some home working may also be possible.
The role will be quite varied but some tasks involved will be:
- Drafting text for the website
- Helping to improve and maintain the website
- Creating measurement tools to monitor the effectiveness of our campaigns through software packages such as Open Office
- Researching and planning campaigns, drafting campaign materials and blogs
- Communicating with members via social media, email and telephone
Skills and Experience:
- Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to write for a variety of audiences
- Good IT skills
- Familiarity with social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter
- Good research and analytical skills
- Ability to work in a team and deliver tasks to time and to a high standard
The Web Activism Volunteer position offers the chance to help develop 38 Degrees by enhancing our members' online experience. It offers great opportunities for learning about online campaigning techniques, the toolset used by 38 Degrees, and to pitch any ideas you may have for future 38 Degrees campaigns. Experience in using tools such as Google Analytics, Google Webmaster tools, Google Optimizer, Wikis, Gimp, iMovie, Open Office and video editing software is an advantage.
Campaigns Volunteer
Based in 38 Degrees office in Farringdon, you will work as part of a small team of campaigners and volunteers. Working hours are flexible but you would ideally volunteer for three days a week for three months. 38 Degrees will pay expenses for lunch up to £6 a day and travel costs. Some home working may also be possible.
Tasks will include:
- Ensuring the whole 38 Degrees team know what our members think through managing the 38 Degrees email contact box, blog and engaging via social networking such as Facebook and Twitter.
- Researching policy issues as required.
- Horizon scanning for possible future campaigns that can be pitched at the weekly Thursday team meeting.
- Analysing campaign data to look at ways to improve and develop.
- Helping with the construction of campaign plans.
- Writing blog posts.
- Writing emails to be blasted to the membership list on ongoing and new campaigns.
- Meeting with external stakeholders to represent 38 Degrees.
The Campaigns Volunteer position offers the chance to get involved in all areas of 38 Degrees, and develop your areas of interest. It offers great opportunities for learning about online campaigning techniques, the toolset used by 38 Degrees, and to pitch any ideas you may have for future 38 Degrees campaigns.
We're looking for clever, motivated people who want to develop their campaigning skills through delivering real pieces of work to a high standard. Ideally you'll have a good degree, some writing experience and excellent communication skills, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Inevitably, some tasks are more exciting than others, but 38 Degrees' work doesn't generate a great deal of admin: there's very little filing to be done and we all make our own tea and do our own photocopying. We'll give you interesting tasks and teach you new skills, if you bring energy and enthusiasm and deliver good work for us .
Volunteer Remotely
Using the wonders of the internet, it is sometimes possible for supporters based all over the UK to volunteer. We think remote volunteers are great as they help to extend our focus across the country and give us a greater insight into regional issues.
Do you have particular skills or passions you might be able to offer to help 38 Degrees? For example, web design, making videos, designing posters, or talking to local journalists.
