The petition text
Dear David Cameron,
Please show the public you're serious about cleaning up politics by pledging to introduce a public, mandatory register of lobbyists if you are elected in May.
In the past you've called lobbying “the next political scandal waiting to happen". Please commit to making lobbying transparent so that we can restore trust in the system.

Professional lobbyists make money by helping powerful private interests like healthcare, arms, tobacco and GM crops influence the government.
At the moment, we don't have a right to know who is lobbying the government or how much money they're spending. That's why we need to make it compulsory for lobbyists to open up their activities by introducing a public, mandatory register of lobbyists. Labour and the Liberal Democrats have made commitments to tackle lobbying links in Westminster, but so far the Conservatives have said they will let lobbyists regulate themselves, which won't do enough to sort out the system.
With the election coming up, there's a chance that David Cameron will be taking over at Number 10. Cameron has promised to get tough on lobbying in the past; now we need to make sure this isn't just pre-election spin. We need to know that he's really committed to cleaning up UK politics.
