RBS is the UK’s largest backer of loans to tar sands companies – at least $2.5 billion since the bailouts. Yet politicians have so far refused to stop this misuse of public money.

Email your election candidates about one of the most important actions to stop runaway climate change.

Tar sands, or ‘blood oil’, are vast deposits of oil locked inside sandy deposits under the forests of Northern Canada. Extracting oil from tar sands:

• produces 3-5 times more pollution than conventional oil;


• tramples the rights and poisons the water of indigenous communities;


• could destroy an area of forest the size of England and Wales.


• is so carbon intensive that if we don’t stop this project, we can’t stop runaway climate change.

It’s time for RBS to clean up its act.
