Yesterday, the Chancellor announced a new 50% tax on bonuses over £25,000. This is is a big success for us and another example of people power working. Together we made sure that public interest won out over bankers’ desire to protect their bonuses.

When politicians listen to us, it’s worth both celebrating our success and acknowledging that they’ve done the right thing. We need to keep campaigning too though: excessive pay in the City and financial speculation helped cause the financial crisis – a windfall tax is a good start, but on it’s own it won’t fix all the longer term problems.
