Call for a Supermarket Watchdog Now
Warwick and Leamington, Castle Point, East Yorkshire and Broxtowe – your chance to secure a supermarket watchdog. Many farmers and farm workers in developing countries are stuck in poverty, as supermarkets use their massive buying power to drive down prices. We’ve teamed up with ActionAid to call for a bill which would create binding rules to make sure supermarkets trade fairly with food producers – both in the UK and abroad. The MPs for Warwick and Leamington, Castle Point, East Yorkshire and Broxtowe could use their Private Members’ Bill time to sponsor a bill which would create a supermarket ombudsman would have the power to stop supermarkets exploiting vulnerable people. All the political parties have said they support new rules to keep supermarkets in check. But now they’ve been elected, we need to make sure they turn words into action. Only very few MPs have the chance to put a Private Members’ Bill in to Parliament, but if your MP is one of them, they can get Parliament to vote on a Private Member’s Bill they choose. Tell them to sponsor a bill to create a supermarket watchdog. Write to your MP now in two minutes and ask them to sponsor a Private Members Bill calling for the creation of a supermarket ombudsman.
