Support changes to Parliament: e-mail your MP now
|
This week, MPs have the chance to vote for changes to Parliament that would make it easier for MPs to challenge the government when they need to do so. It can be a disaster when the government gets their own way all the time and the suggested changes would give every MP the chance to help set the agenda of Parliament. E-mail your MP and tell them to support the Wright Committee at the vote this Thursday . The government isn’t too keen on the changes that have been proposed. They’d prefer it if they could do on setting the timetable for discussions in Parliament, stopping MPs from suggesting ideas which aren’t on the government’s agenda. But many good ideas don’t come from in government : the 10:10 climate promise was debated on one of the rare days when an opposition party gets to set the agenda and the protection for tenants from repossessions came in an individual MP’s bill, or Private Member’s Bill. Trust in politicians has never been lower. But still government hasn’t learnt its lesson about the need to make changes. Tell your MP to vote in favour of the Wright Committee proposals on Thursday .
